The Cockburn Range is a spectacular escarpment region located an hours drive from Kununurra along the Gibb River Road. This escarpment stretches for about 50km along the roadside and is actually a high plateau. The escarpments average 70 to 80 meters high. This section of the King Leopold Ranges below, is located along The Gibb River Road just up from Lennard Gorge - when heading towards Imintji Roadhouse. The fractures and rifts in this section of the ranges have been folded and contorted over millions of years from great pressure & movement beneath the earth's surface.
The Pentecost River (BELOW) located near the Cockburn Range (around 1 & 1/2 hours drive from Kununurra along the Gibb River Road) is an awe inspiring site. If you've got very good eyesight...in the lower left hand section of the second photo below you might be able to see some cars driving through the Pentecost River Crossing In July.
