Driving the Gibb River Road (Part 1) - Kununurra to Ellenbrae

Hi Folks! My Name is Kim. I am just about to go on a trip from Kununurra to Derby along the Gibb River Road. I've got some room in the car so if you want to come along for the virtual tour to see what the road is really like jump on board! I'm doing this trip in three legs because I am in a bit of a rush (I've got to pick up some supplies in Kununurra, drop these supplies off at Mt Hart and then pick up some more stores in Derby, then go all the way back to Mt Hart) - So...The first part of the trip is from Kununurra to Ellenbrae. The 2nd Part is from Ellenbrae to Mt Hart, and the third part is from Mt Hart to Derby. If you are going to do the Gibb River Road trip for real I recommend you take more stops! Remember this is just a virtual tour after all...and the drive takes a lot, lot longer in reality...!

Here we go folks! Heading out of Kununurra along the bitumen...It's going to get heaps more exciting then this in a while so don't go to sleep on me yet...

Well we've just turned off the bitumen onto the Gibb River Road. And we're coming up to our first concrete causeway...

There's nowhere like the wide open spaces of the Kimberleys...

Here we are coming up to the Cockburn Range. Everytime I drive past this range it takes my breath away - it's truly magnificent. We will be driving past this range for about 50km. There are some good camera stops further up ahead after the Pentecost River Crossing. Whoops...I'd better stop staring at the scenery and concentrate on driving instead.

Here we are coming up to the Pentecost River Crossing. Don't worry...It's nowhere near as scary as it looks.

Well we made it through the Pentecost River - those people back there arn't too sure what to do, but now they've seen us get through okay with our 4WD I'm sure they will follow along. I hope that bloke down there gets out of the water - there are saltwater crocodiles in the Pentecost River.

Well here we go passing a fellow traveller...

Well it's time to say farewell to the Cockburn Range folks...

I'm going to get out here at this camera stop and have one last look over the Cockburn range before we hit the road again...

That's the Pentecost river we passed through before..all the way down there in the distance...

Here we are coming up to another sweeping bend...

There goes another fellow traveller. We are nearly at Ellenbrae -might stop there for the night for a camp...

Well it's nice to be out of the car. I've just boiled the billy. We've got an early start in the morning..so if want to do the rest of the trip from Ellenbrae to Mt Hart with me, and then from Mt Hart to Derby, you'd better hit the hay early tonight.
